DEGREES BOOST EARNINGS — BUT FIELD OF STUDY MATTERS
Earning a bachelor’s degree reliably gives workers an economic boost, but their fields of study dramatically influence their earnings potential, according to new data released by Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce. Workers ages 25 to 54 with STEM degrees earn a median of $98,000 a year, in 2024 dollars.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION PLEDGES TO SPEED SOME LOAN FORGIVENESS
The Trump administration has agreed to resume student forgiveness for an estimated 2.5 million borrowers who are enrolled in certain federal repayment plans following a lawsuit from the American Federation of Teachers. Under the agreement reached Friday between the teachers union and the administration, the Education Department will process loan forgiveness for those eligible in certain repayment plans that offer lower monthly payments based on a borrower’s earnings.

UNIVERSITIES ARE EMBRACING AI. WILL STUDENTS GET SMARTER OR STOP THINKING?
At Ohio State University in Columbus, students this year will take compulsory AI classes as part of an initiative to ensure that all of them are ‘AI fluent’ by the time they graduate. And at the University of Sydney, Australia, students will take traditional, in-person tests to prove that they have learned the required skills and not outsourced them to AI. All this is part of a sea change sweeping through campuses as universities and students scramble to adapt to the use of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT.
