STUDENTS CAN’T GET INTO BASIC COLLEGE CLASSES, DRAGGING OUT THEIR TIME IN SCHOOL
As colleges reopen for the fall, new research has pinpointed a problem keeping students from graduating on time: Classes required for their majors aren’t taught during the semesters they need them, or fill up so quickly that no seats are left. Colleges and universities manage only about 15% of the time to provide required courses when their students need to take them, according to research by Ad Astra, which provides scheduling software to 550 universities.

WHAT IS SUPERSCORE
SUPERSCORING for the ACT is an average of your highest English, Math, and Reading scores. It previously included Science, but since Science is now optional, it is not included in the superscore.
Here are some other changes to the new ACT:
☑️ TEST LENGTH – Shorter by 75 minutes and 44 fewer questions.
☑️ BOTH - These enhancements are for both digital and paper tests
☑️ PACING – More time per question
☑️ MATH CHOICES – Reduced from 5 to 4 answer options
☑️ READING PASSAGES – Shorter for clearer comprehension
☑️ SCIENCE & WRITING – Now both are optional sections

HALF OF COLLEGE STUDENTS SAID THEIR MENTAL HEALTH IS ‘FAIR’ TO ‘TERRIBLE’
Half of college students rate their mental health as fair, poor, or terrible, according to a recent survey from the Steve Fund, a nonprofit that focused on the mental health of young people of color. The survey also found about 1 in 5 students said the same about connecting with other students and finding their niche in college.

AMERICA’S TOP COLLEGES
MIT takes the #1 spot on Forbes’ annual list, which showcases 500 colleges that produce successful, high-earning and influential graduates from all economic backgrounds, with less student debt. Despite President Trump’s political assault, the eight Ivies all placed in the top 20, as did three University of California campuses.

HOW COLLEGES WEIGH HIGH SCHOOL EXTRACURRICULARS
Colleges notice meaningful extracurricular activities rather than a long list of activities. Colleges weigh extracurricular activities in admissions, but how they size them up can be a mystery to applicants. “Extracurriculars play an important role in helping admissions officers understand the qualitative skills an applicant may bring to campus,” says one college admissions counselor and a former senior assistant director of admissions at the University of Southern California.
